My present. A good idea?

Well i was asked what present i want so i said 512 mb ram. and since my mobo doesnt support more than 333 mhz of ram i asked for 333mhz 512mb ddr.

I currently have 256mb 266 mhz ddr, so what do u think, shuol;d i get a 266mhz and add it on the old one or get the 333mhz and sell the 266?

P.S. I use my pc for games and programs and i have a lot of programs installed so i dont know if this info helps.

Thanks.

OK , but what i wanna know is that, which one is better in performance, 512mb with 333mhz or 768mb with 266mhz? (Does 33mhz have a bigger effect on the performance than the 256mb space?)

I believe what I was saying is you can upclock the 256mb at 266mhz to 333mhz and add the 512mb at 333mhz so that you will have 768mb at 333mhz.

This is usually done through the bios. You should have a manual that tells you where to change that. Good luck in finding it man.

Depends what you're doing.

Upclock = overclock = run the DDR266 modules at DDR333

Prolly not but even if your hardware cant handle it ... its not gonna "blow up" or anything.... at least not right away. Run some ram testing for an extended duration or play some games or somerhing ... if you get lockups and/or resets then your memory cant handle it and just run it at DDR266
