I/O Device Error

I recently bought an 80gig hard drive to replace the 40gig drive that I have, I took the 40gig out and installed windows on the 80gig and everything works fine. Now, I would like to hook my 40gig back up as a primary slave so that I can get some files off of it to copy over to the new drive and then format is clean. I switched the pins and hooked it up and everything, once I am in windows, I got to my computer and it reconizes the 40gig drive as: Local Disk (E:\) but when you click on it or try to access the drive, it brings up an error saying the following:

E:\ is not accessable

The request could not be performed because of an I/O Device Error.

Any ideas?

Just wanted to say that I got the problem fixed, I got playing around with the Jumper pins on the slave hard drive and eventually it worked.
