DVD not working

Hey everyone. I have a DVD-RW drive that I bought in septer of this year. When I put a disc in (I've tried every kind I can think of) the light comes for only a second and then goes off again. In My Computer it says that the drive is empty and askes that a disc be inserted. I've tried installing new drivers but it doesn't help. I've tried the drive on another computer and it did the same thing. I've rebooted my computer many times, tried different IDE cables, everything I can think of but nothing works. I qould have given up on it, but the drive quit working only a few months after I bought it, so any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

This might be dumb but I had a similar problem with a drive I bought off ebay... then found out the drive was actually a CD-R/DVD player. Didnt even realise I had been taken until I tried to burn a dvd!

That sucks... but yea I used mine for burning dvds before it quit.
