dvd drive not showing up

I have a Sony DVD drive I have had for awhile. I want to use it now to install some games. I have a CDRW drive and 2 hard drives.

C: is set as Primary Master

D: is set for Secondary Master

CDRW drive is set for Secondary Slave

Nothing is setting for the Primary Slave.

When the computer boots up after detecting IDE drives, it does a 2nd check and sees the DVD drive as DM1 (don't know what that means). I tried setting the jumper on the drive to slave (it was set to Master i believe), but the CDRW is already set to slave.

I'm confused and frustrated! Any help appreciated.

if you want to have a dvd drive and a cdrw drive in your system at the same time then do this. You must have a ide cable with the 3 connectors on it. One goes to motherboard and the other 2 goes to your drives. Dvd drive as master and put it on the connector that is farthest from the motherboard. CDRW drive on slave and put it on the middle connector on the cable. Try that and see what happens. Post back with the results.
