D600? That's the same laptop as one I have worked with, it had a DVD Rom Drive in it, one of those ones that has a button that creates a handle and it is infact very easy to replace, once you find a good replacement.

2.0 is highspeed, however 3.0 is coming out very soon, and it's going to be fast as hell.
