Disgusting dvd drive

my dvd writer has started to irritate me. It takes almost half an hour to burn a dvd, be it on 2x or 16x.....any solution would help me save money!!!

its a 16x toshiba writemaster dvdrw....i use nero 8 for burning purpose...

can it be any trouble with the data cable??

possibly, but not likely. Try another cable just to check.
Is there anything in particular you did to make it happen? e.g. upgrading to Nero 8, upgrading hardware/software etc.

EDIT: Just thought about it some more; when your burning, what are the buffers like? they should be between 80-100%. If it's erratic that means it's having trouble getting the data fast enough.

Are you burning from an image or from another drive?

burning image and the data from the same drive does not affect the speed...its the same time consuming!! does burning more dvds affect the lens too...because i have burnt almost around 200 dvds and about 200 cds..does this weakens the lens..

also i am unable to access some of my dvds in this drive while they are working well in others.......i tried replacing the data cable but that too didnt help!!

i will let you know the buffer level in the next post!!!

looks like you definitely need a new drive; although only 400 burns total ... well i suppose that's reasonable

now i was burning my dvd at 16x and there was no sign showing the buffer level.....i guess nero 8 is shit or i should use nero burning rom for seeing the buffer level.....

but if i do need a new drive then i guess the same thing will go with it..anyways, which one should i purchase??

I'd be going for a Pioneer 212, most burners will be around the same price; if in doubt try the guide Praetor made Cd/dvd 101

Although it's getting old, it's still good for a general idea.
I've been using pioneer for years with not too much trouble.
So yeh, good luck
