Hi, I am currently building a new PC, and tested the CD drive. It will not open, the cd drive led is red when i turn the PC on..
I plugged in the IDE cable, and the power cable.
Can anyone help me with this?
Did you try using a paperclip to open the door? There is a small hole just under the door, insert a paper clip and push, the door will open, but you might have to help it by pulling gently. Sometimes they get jammed, and that will fix it.

Check the jumper setting to see if that is set correctly. If you have the end connector on the data cable plugged in the jumper has to set to the master settings. The drive casing at the rear of the drive usually has the MA or MS for master, SA or SL for slave for use when the middle connector is used, and CL or CA for cable select.
If you still see the red light with the jumper set correctly you probably received a defective drive and should return it for exchange. The small hole near the disk tray is simply to release the retainer used to keep the drive from opening while in use. A sewing pin or straight section of a paper clip is used to spring the drive open if the drive fails with a disk inside. That's been on optical drives since they first came out.
