Cannot seem to write to a R-DVD

I purchased Proshow Gold (slide show software) and I can make a CD using the software but cannot make a DVD.



I have the same problem using Roxio Media Creator Ver 7. I can make a CD but not a DVD.



I thought maybe i had to format the DVD disc. But there is no DVD format for an R-DVD that I can find.



At one time I thought I saw some message about a decoder, not sure though.



Can someone help me with this problem?

so what kind of drive do you have, do you have a dvd writer a maybe you have a combo, a dvd reader+ a cd writer but not able to write dvdz !!!
If multiple software cannot make dvd then probably you don't have a dvd writer, check for the labels on it.

edit : lol, you cant format dvd-r, only dvd-rw

Yes patrickv, I believe that I have a DVD reader +CD writer. I installed it about a year ago and forgot that it was not a dvd writer. Usually I do pictures using a Cd. But want to start burning DVD's.
