I have an old laptop I bought for cheap, just to fix up for my own enjoyment and practice. It's a Compaq Armada, E500 and I put windows 2000 professional on it. It has a dvd-rom drive. But when trying to play a dvd, the bottom half of the picture/movie is stretched and deformed looking. And also the audio isn't right when playing a dvd... it jumps and skips and sometimes plays fast or slow. Is the dvd-rom drive messed up or do i not have a driver or something installed? Could i have messed it up by using CD-RW disks in it? -Thanks
no nothings messed up, DVD ROM were made to read all kinds of disk (cd-r,cd-rw,dvd-R,dvd+R,dvd+RW & dvd-RW) except write to them but anyways considering your problem, have you tried alternate players ?
like VLC or Media Player Classic ?
if with the above mention your video still won't play try using an external usb drive
hope it helps

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I've used all kinds of players.. VLC, InterActual, Ravisent CinePlayer.... It's the same on all of them, stretched at the bottom and audio skips and dont play right. It hasn't always been that way though.. I had windows xp on it before 2000, and it worked fine then. But now with windows 2000 it won't play

lol yes i guess i could... i formated the hard drive and re-installed windows. (yes, quiet a big step just for a dvd player lol... but like i say, it's just a practice computer, nothing on it to loose.) So anyway it worked after that. But then a few days later, i put in a dvd, and it's messed up again! this time the audio and all is fine, but it's just stretched and messed up lookin at the bottom again. so once again, does anyone know anything about this? lol thanks
