Swithcing from cd to dvd

Alright, I have decided I now have to conform and buy a dvd reader/burner but I'm not sure what to look for.

First off, the installation. Will there be any difference from the cd burner I have in it now? Different power source, different power needs?

Next, I don't know much about dvd tech. What are decent speeds and brands? Also, I have no idea what dual layering is. If you guys could help me out, I would appreciate it. Thanks

A dvd burnere uses the same 4-pin power connector and IDE cable as your old cd drive (unless you buy a SATA burner). Right now almost all DVD burners hit x18 or x20 speed. I don't think you need to do much research on buying a burner, just look around on newegg and get one with good ratings.

they're all the same now.... literally manufactured by the same 2 or 3 companies.
