will this DVD drive work?

I have a dvd R/RW drive that i found laying around that someone from 1st MLG left behind when they went back to the states, it's brand new still in the box.

it's from DELL, the drive itself says it's designed by toshiba/samsung, the model is a TS-L532/DEKH.

my computer is a Compaq Presario V2000...would i be able to swap out the drive that's in there for the brand new one? i want to do this because the one that's in my computer, i think the laser is shot or something because if i try to burn a CD at anything faster than 12x, it doesnt work, and any DVD or music cd plays choppy and with no sound..

thanks for the help!
