CD-ROM freezes my computer

I have a computer which I built (ABIT motherboard with an AMD 64 3200+ processor and 1GB of memory) The problem I have is when I try to install anything that is on a multiple disk. I first tried it with half life 2, and everything is great until I it asks for CD 2. After I insert the second cd, my computer freezes and I have to hit my restart button. I thought maybe the disk was corrupted, but I tried it again using Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, with the same results. So then I thought maybe it was the cd rom, which is a Sony crx230ee, so I plugged in my fiance's iomega USB CD rom, same results. So I now think it is a problem with my computer, but I have no idea what it is, any ideas?

Perhaps a driver issue?
