My DVD-RW/CD-RW Drive Must Be Female

So I bought this Combo drive a few months ago and havent had any problems til a week or two ago.



It will burn the majority of a cd then at the end it always has an error and cant finish the disk.



Also, it only works sometimes. Sometimes it will only partially read a disk. It will take about 5 min just to load the icon then another 10 to open the CD contents.



Any ideas?



Other times it wont read the disk at all. I have a dvd-rom drive that works fine. Even if i hook it up to the combo drives connections.

It is an LG DVD/CD Burner. Thats all I know. Is it a software or hardware issue? Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like the laser isn't reading very well any more. Some drives are not very good from the start. Taking a long time to load a disk is a sign it cannot read properly. Updating firmware is not likely to help - if it did something and won't any more, it's not firmware.



I suspect it's toast but you could try running some tests using Nero CD/DVD Speed and get the Info Tool while you are at it. You could also try uninstalling then reinstalling to reload the driver (I guess swopping with your dvd drive already did that).
