dvds being read as cds

I am having a problem with my sony dru-710a drive. I have now tried 2 different brands of dvds and each time i insert one it says that its a cd. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device drivers for it and still no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is the drive only recognizing 700 MB? Sometimes my drive will say something's a CD in the label, but still read all the information there on the DVD...

well when i put a cd in it and try to burn on it. i get an error saying that its not the right type of disc. and when i put a dvd in it the drive reads it as a cd. but i cant burn to it. because i get the same error message again.

What program are you using to burn it?

im using nero ultra 6 but even the pc says when i put a dvd in that drive that its a cd, which made me think that i had bought some bunk dvds but then i got some out that ive used before with no problems and they say the same thing. like i put a dvd in and try to burn a video to it and it says that it only has 700mb available. totally lost.

Can anyone help me?

did this drive use to work, and isnt working right anymore? or is this a new drive, and it never worked?

Try also getting some new firmware (different than the drivers), or just reinstalling them.
