Any decent free codecs out there?

I didn't know I would have to pay for software to watch a dvd on the dvd rom I already payed for...

Can anyone recommend a good free codec, if there is such a thing?

Um...DVD's ONLY run on MEPG2, well you're standard DVD. I guess you could cram it full of other types of video

Anyway, Um, you should have some sort of player if you have a DVD-ROM of any sort. I know computers come preloaded with software and drives should come with something like PowerDVD if you purchased one and installed it...

Um...other than this I'm not sure what else to say... I know of one codec pack but I think it's illegal

Just use VideoLAN - good free video player - it will take DVD Movies, anything you throw at it really.

It's all integrated in the program so you don't need to install codecs to play videos.
