DVD Recording 101

Can someone point me to tutorial on recording dvd's? I want to know what the difference is between DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-rw and so on. I'm not sure what to use for what type of recording, some things are obvious but I would like to read up on the subject so I know.

well you can't talk about copying copyright stuff on this forum cause it doesn't go over well, so to copy a disk without protection, you just need nero or something similar. Copyrighted ones would need something to decrypt the encryption, the illegal part, but if you have unencryped files, dvd shrink will handle shrinking your movie from 9gb to ~4.5 and if you have nero installed it will burn straight from there, otherwise you'll need to burn the files using some other program. As far as types of media, I've always used +r's, but there really is little difference that you will notice using one over another, I do know that when the burners first came out, some dvd players would only play the -r format, but I don't think that's been an issue with anything made in like the past 4 years, feel free to PM me for a better explanation of any of this
