Win Media 10 play DVD Problem

I purchased a Plextor PX-740A DVD/RW. I have no problem burning DVD's with my material, but I cannot play a DVD on Win Media 10 Player. I get the lead in and then Windows shuts the player down stating it has encountered a problem.
I have the same problem with my Toshiba DVD cd player.
I have read thru the threads and cannot find what I am looking for as a problem solver......anyone??? tks in advance... FW

Do you have a DVD Decoder? That may be the problem.

no, windows doesnt come with its own DVD Decoder. You can try and get the nerto trial, that might come with one. Or google for "free DVD Decoder", since most of them cost money.

It should have a decoder if you installed Nero ShowTime.
