Can i change my DVD-rw to external ?

Hey ive got a pioneer 109 drive which is a internal IDE drive, ive had it like 6-8months and everytime i try to burn a dvd the computer comes up with a blue screen saying something about a error (Im on XP so this is shocking) and/or the PC loses power and restarts. Both of these happen about 10 - 30% into the burning process and its peed me right off.

Just wondering anyway to get a case of somesort with a USB interface so i can use it as a external drive rather then internal ? Ive got a external USB2.0 Freecom CD-RW and never had a problem.

Yes you can buy a external case and install it in. Some are USB some are Firewire some are both I prefer firewire but USB should work although I'm not sure if it would really be fast enough for it but I have used a DVD burner in one and it worked.

I bought mine from Circuit City for $100 or so but I'm sure you can find them a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Yeah, I got my external enclosure for $45 from this local computer store. USB 2.0 and firewire.

USB is good (in ideal circumstances) for up to 10X burning, anything more although with a classic drive you might be able to pull 12X; anything faster you'll need USB2
