Hey!
I have a dvd drive that has stopped working properly. when i put a dvd in it spins like it normaly would but then it does not AutoPlay and when i go to open the dvd from My Computer it says "please insert disk into drive d:"! The dvd drive is part of a fairly new packard bell system.
thanks
Tried another DVD? Sounds like the DVD can't be detected by the PC. Its the same with CDs if they ain't compatible it just spins and makes that lovely grinding noise.

Sounds like that type of disc isnt supported by the drive. You may consider flashing the drive in case additional media support was added later

Sounds like something more serious indeed. I would see it as a problem of the drive (laser or something mechanical) or possibly of the installation of the OS. If you can, try reinstalling it afresh.
