Heard of this problem before?

I'm in the process of copying all my CDs (about 1100 to 1200 of them) to one of my computer's hard drive. I'm using Windows Media Player to rip them to the hd. It works fairly well except that every now and then when I click on the copy to harddrive button, the whole computer locks up. I'm pretty sure I have the latest version of Media Player too. By the way, I'm using Windows XP with SP2. Any suggestions?

I think you will have to check your CDs, some of them might be dead and that's why your computer locks, the CD-ROM can't read the data from the CD media.

I don't think that's it. After I restart the computer it copys fine.

This is really strange, what about the CD-ROM itself, how long have you been using it? It might be aging too, although I don't think so.

Hi Narafa yes this is most strange, maybe there is a corrupt file on the CD I'm not sure this will need to be looked into

Hi HellBreather, how are you doing friend?

Back to the problem, he already said that he is sure that the CDs don't contain any corrupt files

Anyway, let's wait for someone else feedback other than you and me

Yeah sometimes it is best to see what others come up with,

If you want to have a chat with me just drop me a PM we can have personal conversations that way Narafa saves us going off topic

Well, they are music cds that play fine and it's a brand new Plextor burner. (probably three weeks old)

Thanks anyways for the thoughts.

Someone might still have some help and suggestions so you will have to wait and see if someone else has some ways of troubleshooting.

I had similar problem ripping my disks to hard drive, I found out that I was ripping too many disks (one after another) without letting the drive have a breather, so letting the drive rest for 5 mins after a couple of ripps seem to work for me hope it helps if not then is another problem with media player LOL

Hope it makes sence
