dvd wont work

i recently redid a emachine 533. and my samsung dvd player doesent play dvds.i installed the drivers and the cdrom works but no dvds, it say i have no dvd decoder. what does this mean

It could be an issue with the graphics card. Some old ones, as far as I know cannot play DVDs because they cannot decode the visual data from the DVD disk. It's not an issue of the DVD reader.

did you install a dvd player program. ie powerdvd or windvd?

the dvd player came with the emachine, so it should play it. i do not have any dvd software installed. where may i find it. and can i download for free...thanks
