samsung cd burner problem with xp...

hi, my samsung SW - 224B cd burner is having problem with xp. i was using win98 SE and the burner was running fine, when i switched to xp, this burner all of the sudden doesn't read blank CD which means i can't burn any CD with it. Yes i have tried diff brand of blank CD and i have installed the lastest driver, but it doesn't help... i have done a google search for it, and it seems like people with the same burner are having the same type of problem, unforunately no solution was found.... i have searched throu samsung's website, nothing found and i doubt they would fix it since this burner was released like 3 yrs ago.. so does anyone know a way to fix this??...

May just have to buy a new one. They are relatively cheap these days anyway. If you don't want to splurge you may just want to clean the drive.

Boy have I been in your shoes before, after doing everything physically possible (harware software wise). I came to the realization that burners really do have a lifespan. You either have burned up to the number of hours that the burner is good for, or perhaps it is your power supply not being able to support hardware addded to yuor PC..
