Reasonable gaming build, take two

I posted a while back looking for some advice for a gaming computer, but when I found out the Intel CPUs were getting slashed in the near future I decided to wait for that event to roll around. So, with it only a few days away, I figure now is a good time to fish for some more suggestions. My budget has also increased a bit, so my previous thread doesn't help me as much anymore.

I'll keep it in simple bullet format, otherwise I will get way too wordy. So, here's what I'm looking for.

- Preferred budget at or around $1200. I can go over if given good reason. For example, if I could throw in another $100 and get a significant return for it, I'd be willing. On the other hand, if that $100 would barely be noticeable, then I wouldn't bother. I could also go under, of course, if I could get a comparable machine for less.

- Budget must also cover an OS (I could use suggestions on which Windows version to go with). Could also go for suggestions on keyboard, mouse, and speakers, but those don't necessarily have to be part of the budget unless they get pretty expensive. I already have a monitor.

- Computer would be used largely for games, as well as miscellaneous school-related, non-intensive tasks. Most advanced game I would run is Oblivion, so a setup that can handle Oblivion at fairly high settings would be ideal. Any other game I play falls far below Oblivion in terms of requirements.

- Would be nice if it looked cool. Kind of a secondary thing, but I'm a sucker for blinky lights and shiny stuff. So, humor me if you can .

Thats it for now. Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks for the quick reply.

One thing I think I forgot to mention - this computer will be connected to the Internet by a wireless network. So, I need a card for that? Any suggestions?

I fail you on the wireless one sorry, btw if you are going to play FPS (First Person Shooters) like COD2 or BF1942 don't use wireless or you will get random connection troubles while playing that kind of game

Don't have much choice with the wireless, because I'll be living in a house while away at school and that's the only option I'll have, but I don't generally play FPS anyway so it should be ok. Well, I do still play Halo 1 a bit, I guess, but I haven't had problems with it on wireless .
