good 22" widescreen lcd brand?

i was wondering what you guys think? i actually have a westinghouse 20" non-widescreen, but even though i've had it for under 3 months, best buy won't let me switch it out for their same model but widescreen version. that irritates me. i know it's supposed to be only a 30 day guarantee, but they didn't have the widescreen when i bought mine and i hadn't decided to build my computer yet which supports widescreen. anyway, are there any loopholes there that you guys know of? if not, what about good brands for lcd monitors? thanks.

The Samsung 22" 226BW has gotten some pretty good reviews.

samsung or NEC are my favorites, nec can be pricey at times, (around $360 for a very nice model,) but nec monitors are well worth the price in my mind

The reason i dont go for samsung monitors, you never know if your going to get a good or bad panel. They use i think 3 different lcd panels on the same model, the "S" panel is the one you want.. but it doesn't always happen that way.

Heres the one i got at best buy, a great monitor. I bought it for mostly gaming since it has a fast refresh rate a 3000:1 contrast ratio.

At that price, it was a no-brainer for me

Yeah, there are S, A, and C panels. The S are made by samsung, the A by AU Optronics and the C by some crap company. The A panels aren't that bad, and according to a review(i will find the link later) the only real difference is that the A's have a bit of blue dominance, which can be fixed pretty easily.

I have a Samsung 206BW and i got the A Panel(i was able to tell by the blue dominance) and i managed to fix it.

I have a Belinea 22" widescreen. It may not look as pretty as Samsung screens but I've never had any complaints.

I really like the LGs too. Very nice panels, all things considered.

For the best all around monitor look for a fast response S-IPS panel which are the same types used in the 30 inch Dell and Apple. Not all S-IPS panels are equal but the good ones are hard to beat. Some S-IPS panels have slow response times so another alternative would be to go with an S-PVA panel which is the type panel used in the 30 inch Samsung model. Here is a quick run down of the differences in types of panels..

Quote:

TN film (Twisted Nematic)

- low manufacturing/retail costs

- restrictive viewing angles

- fast pixel response times

- dead pixels display white. Stuck pixels display RGB colors

- lower contrast levels means blacks are not as dark as VA based panels

- lower color reproduction

IPS (In Plane Switching)

- improved viewing angles over TN

- very good color reproduction

- slower pixel response times than TN

- dead pixels display black

- lower contrast levels means blacks are not as dark as VA based panels

Super-IPS (S-IPS)

- same as IPS except ...

- likely best color reproduction of all TFT

- less expensive to produce than IPS

- improved pixel response

VA (Vertical Alignment) Technologies

MVA (Multidomain Vertical Alignment)

- compromise between TN and IPS technologies

- superior color reproduction over TN but not as good as IPS

- very good viewing angles but less than IPS

- higher contrast than TN or S-IPS means very good blacks

- dead pixels are black

- slower pixel response than TN or IPS

- details can be lost when directly viewing dark areas

Premium-MVA (P-MVA)

- same as MVA except ...

- "overdrive" technology increases pixel response but still slower than TN

- may have slightly degraded color reproduction due to "overdrive" process

PVA (Patterned VA)

- same as MVA except ...

- larger viewing angles

- higher contrast levels means darkest blacks

Super-PVA (S-PVA)

- same as PVA except ...

- 揗agic Speed?(the Samsung equivalent to Overdrive) improves pixel response

- slightly improved color reproduction

- slightly improved viewing angles

I think I have to disagree there. I sell Acers, and I have a 22" and 2 19" Acer widescreens here in the office. They're *ok*, decent for the money, but they ANYTHING but pwn. This one sitting beside me is an LG 19" widescreen and it totally destroys the Acer.

For a value screen they do the trick, but the colors are mediocre. Performance in games is equally mediocre. It's fine, just not "fabulous" or "pwnage" or anything.
