Umm, I believe sometime in Feb, the 9 series is being released. Best bet would be to keep that $500 till then, and see what the new cards have up their sleeve.

if the above is true, then i'd wait, otherwise...might as well get the GTX..or if you want to have some pocket money, a 512mb 8800GTS.

the 8800GTX outperforms all of them...but the 8800GTS(512mb version) isn't that far off...and the 8800GT not far off the GTS...it depends on how much you want to spend. The 8800GTX is best of all 3.

In terms of the 9 series, there isn't much info about it at the moment. Some speculate it to be released next spring...so you're better off just buying a card now in my opinion

Get an 8800GTX from EVGA, the stock one (You can OC) for about $550. Then use the step up program to get a 9 series in Feb

best, better, #1, how do you gauge these things, lol? EVGA is known for using quality components, having a terrific customer/tech service, and above all else, they are known for the exclusive "step-up" deal. Buy any card from them, and anytime, within 90 days, you are allowed to trade this card for full credit towards any other card. Ka-ching.

Yep, EVGA ftw. (I've never had a problem, so I haven't used customer service. That probably is because of their quality components though )

you can buy EVGA in stores too, its just the step up program that requires you to file it over the net.
