300 $ limit

hows it goin. ive got 300+ some $$ to spend on a vid card. current is an ati 9800 pro 128 mb 256 bit agp 4/8.....this card is really old althogh it is a great card. have trouble running WoW sometimes and i just got call of duty 2, cant even run that bitch. i would switch to pci-e 16x, but my mother board isnt compatible. i know all the current ones have this but i want a decent card that could be good enough to run current game smooth on MORE than average settings . suggestions and or comments are much appreciated, thanks

wat u might wanna do is take 100 and get a new pci-e mobo then spend 200ish on a new card.

i thought about that, but would a 200 $ card run the newest games on high settings? and im not good with computers, so getting the mother board out would be a real bitch, and putting another in would be even more of a bitch. is the user guide for putting a mobo in user friendly? and the big question is would a 200 be worth buying.

AMD are generally better for gaming, what intel processor do u have? GFX card i reccomend 7800GTX (256 mb) off of http://www.newegg.com/

i think u can get one for 300.

Basicly that card is one of the fastest cards for desktops. One faster is the 7800GTX Ultra (512mb) but i think that cost like $750

EDIT: O, ur just changing your card, well i think the 1600's from ati can be on AGP. Go check it out.

oh thanks alot, but i was pondering a suggestion on a mother board with pci-e for a new vid card, i finally decided to get this with a new mobo that supports it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102594, i dont know much about mother boards and a suggestion that would be good with this would be nice.

He can't get a PCI-E mobo if he is blowing 300 on a 7800GT! Look, just invest in a decent 150 PCI-E mobo and just wait a little...

What about a CPU though? What socket do you have right now?

You should try this combo:

Gigabyte Geforce 6800GS

MSI 915P Neo-F

This is assuming that you have a Socket T CPU and DDR-2 RAM. There are no motherboards with a socket 478 and PCI-Express sockets. Socket 478 is for the older Pentium 4 chips.
