I read somewhere that it is possible to unlock some locked pipelines on a 6600GT, thus, enabling it to function as a 6800GT. Is there any truth to this? If so, does anyone know how to do this?

no, i think your getting confused, my understanding is that 6600gt has no locked pipes, you may be getting confused with the 6800 which you can unlock 4 pipes to the equivelant of the full 16 of the 6600GT

Ohhhh....thanks for the heads up! I'm confused though, why would there be 16 unlocked pipes on the 6600GT and only 12 unlocked on the 6800? Either way, is unlocking those pipes a difficult thing to do?

hahah thanks for all the help today guys, much appreciated. One more thing, would you recommend the 6600 or 6800 series vrs the x700 or x800 series?

Yeah, damn typos I hate them, that's an easy one to do too
I'd take a 6600GT over an x700, the x700 series is discontinued. And it depends on what 6800 (GT, Ultra, NU) and what x800 (XT, XL, Pro, whatever else they do) for which one I'd pick there.

Thanks for the advice. I am contemplating buying the 6800 (even though my loyalties lie with ati) and unlocking the extra pipelines and such for a boost. Thanks for the help.
