I'm building a new computer and I have mostly everything but a monitor. I was looking at LCDs, but I read that they slow down frames per second because they can't refresh as fast. They probably make the visuals look better though right? CRTs are good because they're cheaper and I also read that they refresh faster than LCDs do, making my fps better.
I don't really care if my monitor is flat panel, but flat screen is nice. I could live without it though if it will save me money. What should I look for in a monitor?
The LCD monitors are fast enough to give real-time video at high frame rates..faster than what your eye can distinguish... and probably faster than what a lot of software games can do anyways. Plus... they consume 1/2 the amount fo power... plus, you have the option of getting a widescreen monitor too in LCD (dell 2005FPW is the one I have..) 20" wide screen and getting cheap.

it seems that gamers swear by the CRTs. LCDs will not be as bright as a CRT, but they take up a lot less room, run cooler, etc.. you will also pay a lot more for a LCD compared to a CRT. I don't know if you're into games or what your needs are... but I do audio/video production, so I opted for two CRT monitors side by side. It's dirt cheap compared to a widescreen LCD, but it wont work too well with games with the divide in the middle...
do a search of the forum, this topic has been covered a million times....

whats the main use for the computer ie gaming, video editing? lcd's/tft go by response time rather then refresh rate, if the response time is 12ms or below it is fine foir gaming, anything higher isnt really worth it.

Actually I have two monitors as well. When you play games it doesn't split the game onto 2 different screens, it will only open the game on one of your monitors. I'm sure there is a way to have it split screen if you wanted to but all the games I've played open on one monitor by default.
