I've got a question ... I myself have always chose ATI.



I recently ordered a new laptop and right now have chosen the ATI Mobility Radeon X800 over the Nvidia GeForce 6800 Go.



I've been beating my head going back and forth wondering if I made the right choice. The few reviews I've read have given the X800 a slim lead over the 6800 Go (when overclocking) ... but I don't think I will ever over clock. I don't think I will be disappointed if I end up getting the ATI X800, but I like how Blue puts it "the best card at the time".



So which one is better and why? Both are 256MB w/ DDR3, 12pipelines. In this review they say the X800 comes stocked clocked core 400, memory 700 .... and the 6800 Go comes stocked clocked core 330, memory 1000.

Again I don't think I'll ever overclock, but the X800 overclocked is 454/818 and the 6800 is 380/1440.

Probably a good call as ATi tends to be "more performance per 篊" and "more performance per watt". The good news is that due to the architecture, the ATi cards tend to be more OC friendly (longer pipeline and all) but the flipside of that is that they are less clock efficient. Of course Im sure both ATi and nVidia have considered this so I dont expect dangerous temperatures from such setups



Almost universally, video limitations are due to restrictions imposed by memory bandwdith rather than core clocks so on the surface it would seem wiser to go with the nvidia route (gosh im surprised the X800Mobile's memory is clocked so low .... and that the 6800mobile's memory is clocked so high). Are you certain the 6800Mobile is clocked at 500MHZ? (as opposed to 350MHz and thus put it on par with the X800)



Also note that just because *they* got those clockspeeds doesnt mean you will

It's hard to tell if I get the Ultra or not. Alienware is configuring them at 450 core/ 600 memory.



By the reviews it says the Ultra is the one at 450 for core.

So this would be a 12 pipe dealie ... dunno ... whats the price premium on this?

dunno ... came with the laptop. I don't know how it would be if purchase retail. I think I read somewhere it's around $435 or so.
