What card to buy 2

Hey, I am new here and I have a few questions.

[I AM REALLY DUMB WITH COMPUTERS ]

I now have a Geforce4 MX 64MB Intergrated GPU, and it has a hard time playing up-to-date games on a decent fps. I am somewhat glad it can handle HL2 with low-medium quality, with little studders and an occasional freezing when something big explodes. Of course, the card will be totally useless in 1 year, so I want to upgrade to at least play HL2 on medium-high detail with a decent fps. There seems to be a great deal at www.cyberwarehouse.com (that store is actually really close to me) and they seem to be selling video cards there cheap.

They are selling a

Apollo GeForce FX5600XT 256MB DDR 8x AGP Video Card w/DVI

for $170.

They are selling a

Apollo ATI Radeon 9600SE 128MB DDR 8x AGP Video Card

for $129.99.

I really really dont have enough money to spend on a $200+ card since I'm too young to get a job, and my dad is going to have to buy it for me. Luckily, all my relatives gave me like $20 from christmas and it all adds up to about $120.

It doesn't have to be one of those cards up there, but I just want a card that is less than 200 and will hold me up for 2 or 3 years. My dad doesn't trust the internet because he's scared of hackers and crap taking his credit info (even if it is on paypal). So we cannot order anything online...

Bye.

What motherboard do you have? You cannot put an AGP 8x gfx in a mobo that only takes AGP 4x

Second thing:

I dunno what I was going to say, I forgot

What made me pretty sure is that I just got this computer not too long ago, and I would think it would have a 8x in it...

It's AGP8X (the 8X in the A7N8X means that)

2 quick questions..

256 is better than 128 in the video card right?

Can an Apollo GeForce FX5600XT 256MB DDR 8x AGP Video Card w/DVI play Doom3?

Was this answer helpful ? Yes No
JooK

If you can manage to spend $199.99 then compusa have a good deal a geforce 6600GT made bt verto. this video card is alot better then the GeForce FX5600XT so if you can manage the extra $30 I would go for it.

Anything newer than roughly a GeForce2MX can play Doom3 its a matter of how well it plays. The GFX5600 should give you decent performance at 800x600@medium
