Amplified Sound Card?

How can you tell if a sound card is amplified or not?

If this is with regards to your Computer to Stereo System thread, you actually DON'T want an amplified signal as it will cause distortion on typical setups. I'm quite sure most all sound cards are amplified slightly. I mean you can use speakers without amps and actually hear them... And I recall some older sound cards had a "speaker out" (amplified) and a "line out" (pre-amp)
