A noob and his speakers

OK I have a bargain basement Gateway comp that is 5 years old or so. My friend attempted to eliminate my spyware/adware problem and eliminated ALL my files.



Now my speakers don't have any sound coming through them. I assumed it was the sound card so I went and bought what I thought was a descent one.



I have no active mixer devices, it says no audio devices available. the sound card is installed properly and I am stumped.



anyone with any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

While running a test the speakers chimed in. i have a little Icon on the bottom toolbar that says "volume control" when you scroll over it. After cliccking it I get the window that says "the audio device supported by this application is not detected"



Ive figured out that the speakers are working fine yet I cannot get any sound to come from them and my comp says that no aduido devices are detected. I just re-installed the installation wizard so what gives?
