AUX In connector useful?

I was wondering what the aux in connector(internal mpc3 connector)is used for.

I have it connected from my dvd drive to the aux in on my audigy.

Is it really necessary?

Will you be getting only analog audio when playbacking dvds?

Thanks

Don't bother. Nearly everything anymore is done digitally, simply though the standard IDE interface cable. About their only real use anymore would be some capture cards.
