I use an older set of Logitech Z-640 5.1 speakers here and strongly agree with your preference of the set seen at the second link there for actual sound quality. In fact they are still seen listed at http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-640.../dp/B00006HYPD

The only thing missed on the Logitech models seen at the vendor there is a set with a headphone jack? Other then that I would have to recommend the set you already are leaning towards.

You are quite correct there. The problem when looking over the X-530 model at the vendor is not being able to enlarge the images to get a better look. The one thing that disappointed me here was which speaker the volume control and headphone was located. Unlike the older Z-640 set with those on the center you can see those on one of the side speakers in the image at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.aspx?Image=36-121-126-01.jpg%2c36-121-126-02.jpg%2c36-121-126-03.jpg&CurImage=36-121-126-02.jpg&Depa=1&Description=Logitech+X-530+70+watts+RMS+5.1+Black+Speaker+System+-+OEM

They still look like a great set to go with for the price. More detail can also be looked over at Logitech's own site in your own region seen at http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...CONTENTID=9067

I have the Logitech X-530's, and I must say that they are excellent. They are inexpensive, powerful, and have great sound quality. The headphone/volume control thing isn't an issue for me, but if it is for you, consider going with the slightly more expensive X-540's, which have a separate, in-line (wired) remote that contains volume controls, bass controls, and a headphone jack.

i previously owned the X-530 5.1 Logitechs and i think they were awesome for the price. i purchased my X-530's for AU$100. it comes with a jack that allows you (with the right plugs) to attach to Ipods, Etc. i have now upgraded to the beasty Z-5500 which i love.

Besides having the volume, bass, and balance controls having a pair of headphones with a volume adjustment on the cord can be a plus too. I found that with the Koss brand used here to one handy item to consider. It simply adds another sound control option into the mix overall. Logitech seems to have a top quality brand to consider for speakers without a giant amplifier needed for the average user(especially late at night with fussy neighbors )
