audio skipping in some games

with a few games, my computer has a minor audio problem. im not sure what exactly triggers it, because its not preasent in all of them...the problem is a sputtering crackling audio thats pretty much just present through most sound effects. the sound effects themselves are not being played back improperly..so much as this crackly noise is just over everything. this is a powerful computer, and the problem remains regardless of settings..so i dont think its due to just regular ingame lag. the two games ive really noticed it in are mage knight apocalypse and the LOTRO beta, whereas its not present (except under some very rare circumstances) in Oblivion. its integrated audio on an intel motherboard, 945g chipset. i have the newest drivers off the intel site, and intel audio studio software. the problem is sort of hard to describe, but any help is appreciated.

Perhaps your soundcard (yes, onboard) is dead. Happened on my brothers motherboard, he had to buy a separate soundcard. But then again, it might be your speakers. What speakers do you have? Is there anything near them to cause interference? They properly EMI sheilded?

For now, try uninstalling every sound card driver you have and then reinstalling the drivers you downloaded.

Reinstall the audio drivers...

it isnt the speakers..the glitch comes through on headphones..and i doubt its a matter of something being physically busted..the comp is just a little bit over a year old..and as i said, the problem is only present in some games. thanks for the response

re-installing the drivers didn't help either. =/

this might help too..i just grabbed a recording of the problem with a headset mic and hosted it on tripod..its sucky quality and low volume, but it can probably get across what exactly the issue is. the sound is the opening screen of the LOTRO beta, and all the clicks you can hear are what i would like to get rid of

Umm, I cant think of much else but do you have your hardware acceleration all the way up?

start> control panel> sound speech and audio devices> sounds and audio devices> speakersettings> advanced> performance> acceleration to full and sample rate conversion to best.

yeah, its on full..but i came across an interesting problem in that control panel...when i enter the advanced speaker settings, the speaker setup pulldown menu is always on 7.1 surround..i only have two speakers on my desk -.- i set it to stereo speakers, hit apply and ok..but everytime i exit that control panel it resets itself. is it just reseting the slider position..or actually changing the setting?..
