Western Digital Raptor X 150GB $220 I assumed he didn't need much space because it would be mostly music.

Creative X-Fi Xtremegame Fatal1ty Professional $125

Thermaltake 700W W0106RU PSU $155

eVGA 8800GTS $460

Sennheiser HD 650 Audiophile Headphones $250

$2022

A lot of room left to pick a case, drives, and such. If there's enough money left, you could upgrade to a 8800GTX.

Noticed he said Ultimate Sound Computer! I would go with this.

*****His he doing gaming? If not go something low end.

Also, if he is storing lots of music why not go with something way high capacity?

You saying that he needs 500GB for music?

Also, the elite and the one i chose are the same cards except the fatal1ty one has X-RAM. I added that just in case the guy wanted to game. The Elite is not a better card in any way...

Another reason why I didn't add the elite was because he said they wanted to use headphones. Why would you need an external I/O box for headphones?

You wouldn't think he would but he might. He might also want some other things on there but he hasn't specified so let's see what else he says.

***The Elite has X-Ram to be exact 64mb of it. Also, it has 116dB SNR compared to that of the Fatal1ty's 109db. Also, he said ultimate sound computer. That taking into consideration he might also want to do other stuff besides just using his headphones.

lol does it really take a raptor to listen to music? I agree with holyjunk, get a huge harddrive, who knows, he might want to watch movies too.

get a cheap grafic's card (a X1300 on PCI-e would do)

a Core2Duo E6400 would be good enough for sound also (plenty of power left too =] ) 2Gb DDR2 RAM (667MHz), a decent motherboard LGA775 C2D compartible ofcourse , and maybe 4 500Gb harddiskes in RAID 0 (to make the seeking time shorter, ofcourse you can use smaller Hard-disk's.. 2Terabyte may be a bit much indeed.. )

as for the power supply.. (yes, I'm doing it again ) I can only reccomend the Corsair PSU's. I think the HX520W would be more than enough for this pc. ( these PSU's actually use industrial grade components, wich makes them really durable,.. not to mention they have a 5year manufacturer warranty )

the X-Fi soundcards are good,.. but look what sort of audio output's does the pc need? ( I can immagine you would like Coaxial digital out and optical output.
