Can I access an application on a home network?

Okay I am newbie and I am finally able to view and edit files and folders on my desktop from my laptop using my home network. Is it possible to execute an application on the Desktop and use it. In other words let's say I want to go into Outlook to reply to some emails from my laptop. My Desktop has the Inbox that I want to work with. Could you walk me through the steps I would take. Also, if possible is it easier to do all the applications on the hard drive of the desktop all at once versus individually. The reason I want to set things up this way is because I want the desktop always to be up to date with all of the work that I am doing whether I am inputting it directly or via the laptop. Thank you. Frank

Thanks for the input. I tried that, but being a newbie it was kinda complicated. I was hoping some one could tell me that it could be done with my home network that I already set up and am able to share files and folders. Now I was hoping to access a few of the application programs with the sharing method if there is such a thing.

I haven't done this in a long time but you simply can do this. For instance, if you were going to share the firefox web browser on different computers that didn't have the firefox browser installed on their computer, you would simply shared the firefox.exe. Once the computer would connect to the shared folder, they would simply double-click the firefox.exe file and they would be allow to browse the internet just like you.

Thanks James. Went to the execute file and right click but the drop down menu did not have a tab for sharing. When I right click on a file or folder I get the share option. Please advise.
