HP Laserjet 2600n

I have bought a second hand laserjet 2600n (which is to replace my 8550 I bought second hand a couple months ago and nothing but trouble with).

This new printer prints OK, but has long parallel lines down the paper at the same places each print. If I open the front cover of the printer, I can see there is toner in lines on the black belt thing inside. I do not want to touch this or clean it off as I guess you are not meant to?

Any ideas what is causing this? I have done the system clean utility, and the next print is usually close to ok, but a few prints later the lines return.

Any info would be great.

It sounds as though the drum unit is going bad. (hence the second hand ) These can be rather expensive, do a little research on the cost of the drum versus buying a new one, oh, and see if you can get your money back if this was doing this right when you got the printer from this other person...
