Trouble connecting modem to new computer.

Hey people, yesterday i built a new computer and today i hooked it up and installed the operating system and cant figure out how to get a internet connection. I thought if i just switched the ethernet cord from my old one and put it in the new one it would work but i guess i was wrong. When i try to setup a internet connection with Internet Explorer it says it cant find a modem.. When i use my old computer and put that ethernet cord in it everything works fine. I dunno if i need to install anything with my Modem or router or something..

what modem are you talking about ?
how do you get internet connection ?, we need more (technical) info to be able to solve the matter

did you install the drivers of the mobo cd?
