been looking for something less than $200 with a 3" screen. Its gonna be for when I go to college next year. What do you think?
Not bad. Canon's always made a very nice point and shoot camera. I don't like their higher end ones(one under the Rebel such as the S5IS) but you probably wont find a much better camera at that size.

Several friends recommended the Canon SD1000. I just picked one up today at Best Buy for $164 (employee discount) $199 regular.

yeah, but for the same price I can get a minimally lower camera with a bigger screen which I like. But, yes I had looked at the 1000 - screen size is the reason I passed on it.

Too me I think the screen is a good enough size. Have you gotten it yet how is it.
With the SD1000 at first I was like dont tell me the pics are gonna be this crappy. This was looking at the screen before taking a pic. After I took the shot I was extremly happy.
