Digital camera specs

What specs should I look at when purchasing a digital camera? I recently had a Sanyo VPC-T700 with 7.1MP, and the pictures were horrable. All the pictures would either be blurry, too bright, or it would have a orange color. ive tried all the different settings, but nothing worked. here are the specs for the camera:

Lens and Image Quality Megapixels 7 Megapixels

Optical Zoom 3 X

Digital Zoom 10 X

Max Aperture f/2.8

Min Aperture f/4.8

Max Focal Length 17.4 mm

Min Focal Length 5.8 mm

Maximum Shutter Speed 1/1000 sec

Minimum Shutter Speed 2 sec

Image Format JPEG

Focus Modes Automatic

Exposure Settings Automatic

Macro Focusing Range 6 cm

Minimum Focusing Range 19.7 in

Features LCD Screen Size 2.5 in

Shooting Modes Frame movie mode

Self Timer Yes

Self Timer Delay 10 sec, 2 sec

Is this not a good camera?

This Sony is not a good one. If you want to take some good pictures, but you have a tight budget. I'll recommend Canon. I recently purchased the Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS. It basically have everything you could want in a compact point and shoot digital camera.

1. Excellent image quality

2. LCD display, intelligent defaults,

3. Good low light photos

In the same price range, there is no camera can compare with 860 IS.

I am on a budget for this christmas, and will probably be getting a kodak something. It will have 50x combined zoom, 7.1mp, and all for 250 bucks. It will be about 320 with battery and charger.

what is it you want to do with a camera? because depending on what you want to do, and how small you want it will help you decide on what to go with.
my brother has a Casio Exilim EX-S600 and he loves it. it takes excellent pictures and never blurs, isn't ever too bright, and i have never seen an orange picture, except when it is supposed to be orange. even when you shake the camera in your hand and the subject is jumping on a trampoline, it still takes great pictures. i took a picture of some computer fans hooked up to a battery going full speed and the shutter speed on it caught the fans as if they were standing still.
here is a link for that:
