from what i heard the GT is the better bang for the buck. i originally chose the GTS cause the GT's were sold out.. but they got em back in now... and its about 100 bucks cheaper
The immediate preference with the 8800s is the GT by many. EVGA is also a good brand to consider when looking over NVidia model cards. MSI likes to take the performance lead to a degree as well as Asus to add to that.

Most of the gamers usually go for the GT line. This is one reason why you were hearing that being the "better bang for the buck" expression.

I have the GTS, play games and it is amazing. One suggestion before you buy any. Are you sure it will fit in your computer? I bought mine, it fitted exactly but I had to remove a USB card that I had installed because it came around 2mm far from it.

That's a good point there! Once you get into a hgh end type card seeing a large vpu and even vpu cooler stock or 3rd party those will need space to work with. The gaming card in particular will see the larger vpu coolers on those that will extend sideways.
