Is acer a good desktop/laptop brand ?

Which Brand do you prefer?

If you could suggest a good desktop/laptop

at around 700$ and less. That would be great.

The computer will be used mainly for home/ office use

some mild gaming.

I would get Dell, Sony or Toshiba(Laptop).

Any of the above mentioned you can find it for around 700$, Im not sure if you can find a Sony Laptop for less than 700$ but is possible.
