8800GT vs 8800GTs

I'm building a gaming rig, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz CPU, 2 gigs ram ect.

Anyways I'm now split between This and This my basic question is, is there a big enough difference to pay an extra $70 (50 after rebate)?

What sort of FPS gain will i get by going with the 8800GTS?

My bet would be to get the 8800GT. I've read that the GTS 512MB only performs about 15% better than the 8800GT which makes the 8800GT a better buy since the GTS costs more than 15% more.

To make it simple, the 8800GT is the best card for the price at the moment with the HD3870 and HD3850 right behind it. Also, personally I would get a non pre-clocked 8800GT such as this one:

Hope that helped!

You've got an extra...

20 MHz Core Clock 3% improvement
16 Stream Processors 14% improvement
40 MHz Memory Clock 2% improvment

So it's honestly up to you. I'd pay the extra 70 bucks for this improvement. But that's just me.

The only problem being that the 8800gt is still very scarce, and when it's in stock, it doesn't stay like that for long, while you can find the GTS much easier. It was intentionally done like that.

Here's some Benchies to help you decide.. It doesn't look like you're sparing any expenses on that that rig, so the GTS may well be your best shot. But if you're looking to spare some change a 38xx series will suffice. The 3850 especially, as it's the same card as the 3870, just reduced Core clock. If you're overclocking you can remedy this easily, and add some extra omph as well.

My new pc has a Q6600 and 4 gigs of ram with GTS in it also.

RIGHT when I was about to order my PC, the GT I wanted sold out. It was only out for like 2 days, and it sold out that fast. So I chose a GTS alternative. Whatever, sometimes its good to be different
