next higher upgrade is $365 so I'm not really interested in going higher than that.
other than that as far as my build goes I'm going with the standard 80 GB HD since I know I can purchase bigger HDs for cheaper than what they are offering. I am going with the 4GB memory since they are currently running a special so it's just $50 for the upgrade. 8800m GTX SLI. 1920x1200 screen. WinXP SP2 (Vista I hear has issues with SLI and I don't think the newest games require Vista, correct me if I'm wrong) 3 year parts & labor with LCD accidental damage protection from xotic. everything else standard.
approx $3600-3700 depending on processor.
recommendations and suggestions much appreciated, including if you know of any better vendors.
and yes this laptop is for gaming as well as video editing and graphic design

I'm pretty sure people on this forum can suggest a nice laptop for a little cheaper. But since I'm not so good on the topic of laptops I would go either the quad or dont upgrade it. Again that is one expensive laptop!

PS: The new games don't require vista (yet), but you need vista for directX 10.(Or at least for now anyway) But you can always upgrade later or run both vista and XP!
for all the current use and applications, i don't think you would need to get a quad core. i would just go with the standard but if u want to upgrade, then go for the 3ghz
ya thats one crazy expensive one. $100 is not that much compared to how much the laptop is, so i would go with the upgrade. any would be fine but i would pick the C2D 3ghz
well I'm really interested in the 8800m GTX which is why I'm going for this notebook.

I could possibly go without the dual 8800m GTX and just go with the single which would knock off almost $700. from the reviews I've seen of the 8800m GTX is more than capable on current games and appliacations... however the extra $700 is more of an investment on future games and appliacations.
One thing that would definitely change my mind however is whether I can upgrade it myself later. Supposedly what is promised to ship by the end of February is the upgrade to make the system SLI. So if I can possibly upgrade it myself a year or two down the road I'd certainly do that instead and save that extra $700.
also now I'm looking more at pctorque as they offer the full 3 year accidental damage protection on the whole system rather than just the LCD... unfortunately that takes the whole warranty price to about $600 as you have to buy the regualr warranty from Sager.
Could possibly see leaving the standard 1 year or going two year on just the Sager parts and labor warranty. Hey if the parts break after warranty you can always accidentally break it too. :p
yeah if you wait just a little longer until the 9 series comes out, i'm betting there will be a price cut on the 8800 series as many people will jump on the new ones. unless you want the laptop right now and willing to pay the premium price lol
problem with waiting is that I currently do not have a laptop and I was hoping to have one around the start of the new semester which is about 10 days away. Unless the 9 series is coming out within the next few weeks I don't think I can really hold out.
Originally I was looking for laptops in the 2k - 3k range but the 8800 has gotten me into the 3k - 4k range which is doable. If there was a system that was maybe 90 perecent as powerful as the one I am looking at now and cost a good deal less I could see going for that but so far most of the systems I've seen aren't half as powerful.
