Looking for a DVD Tutorial on how to Open my Laptop

I broke my power socket on my laptop after a nasty fall. I took my laptop to my local repair shop.

It was a shock to hear he wanted ?50 for the repair, no way was i going to pay that. Not only that,

i have heard so many negative things about the repair shops where the repair doesn抰 last.

It seems forever i am looking for help on this issue. Does anyone know any good sources ?

I am ok on DIY and pretty good on soldering but i am stuck on opening the laptop without breaking it.

I heard that some people have made repair DVDs and ordered a few but there more or less PDF抯

I am trying to find a proper DVD tutorial that is Video based and fully featured.

Does anyone know where i can get hold of one ? I don抰 mind any reasonable price.

I am not looking for a list or text based or PDF tutorial.

Basically what i am looking for is a proper hands on video walkthrough where i can see the basics of how to open

this thing.

Please please help.

Lars

Opening is easy... But once you get inside you will need to diagnose whats wrong. Thats what the $150 is for. How much is the laptop worth? How much is it worth to you? Do you understand that it could drop to a value of $0? if/when you mess it up..

Lars,

Trizoy is right it is quite a job if you don't know what you are doing, its on avarage a two hour job and if you get it wrong you can be stuffed. it is definetly worth ?50 but you should always ask for a warranty.

If your willing to take on the job yourself might i recomend a DVD, i think it is what you are looking for. Its a proper video of a guy opening up and showing tips on how to repair open up and repair the powerjack, i assume thats what your trying to repair, this guy also does the repair and very cheap with warranty. He only does UK jobs though. I have recomended him a few times and everyone i recomended is happy sofar. not sure what his email is but the website is www.powerjackrepair.com you can find the dvd there.

Hope that helps you Lars

I disagree that is it worth $300+ to replace the AC jack. I do that sort of repair for around $100 or less, however it is a difficult repair. Also, I doubt you'll find a DVD guide as every laptop is dissembled differently, so you'd have to find a tutorial for your exact make and model, most like not going to happen.

Thankyou Carl97 you are a life saver.

I must admit i had my doubts at that price and if it would cover the repair of my Compaq NX8220. I am not usually very good at repairing things but the way you put it in the video it was a breeze you made it look so easy and it was. My laptop wasnt the same as in the video but the way you put it made it work for me. My comments on the Video would be very little on the negative and brilliant on the possitive side. You could improve a little on the sound and you should charge a lot more, i would sugest arount ?9 - ?5.

Your price makes it look too cheap to be true if you forgive me saying so.

Keep up the great work and put me on your list for second edition, the one with soldering tutorials etc.

Thumbs Up.

Happy New Year and Thanks Again.

Regards Lars

A service manual would be helpful:
