I just got a laptop for xmas....1.5 ghz and 2gb memory. This bitch jumps from 2% processing to 98% and came to a point in the movie where it couldn't play it without lagging. So I got pissed and played the rest of the movie in my 360...didn't have any problems.
Is my laptop a piece of shit or is the reader just having problems?
Try using a different program that doesnt use so much cpu bandwidth.

From what I know (if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me!), WMP will only play DVDs if it finds a DVD decoder from another program on your PC. That means you should have another program to play DVDs with. Like anothEr says, try another program to see if your CPU use stays unacceptably high.

Also make sure you're not running on Battery power; that you have your AC Adapter plugged into the wall socket.
