Keyboard driving me mad!!

Since my desktop is out of commision at thhe moment (until payday at least) I've resorted to my not-so user-friendly laptop. While it's in decent shape, it -is- a hand-me-down laptop. It's a Dell Latitude CPx H500GT. When I first got the monitor I had to replace the screen (backlight burnt out) Apparently... somewhere in this process, I think he bumped loose a cable or something, because now when I type several letters repeat (and believe me, if I didn't correct the errors, it would drive you nuts too...) Most common are the letters: E, N, H, P, and the spacebar.

I've looked online in several other places to try and find a manual or something, maybe a diagram of removing the keyboard from the laptop, but I just don't know how and I can't find anything. Not to mention, I know nothing about working on laptops.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, or even assure me that this could be part of the problem?

I think you can be able to use your desktop keyboard if you just plug it into the USB port
