I purchased a Fedora Linux dedicated server with Ensim Basic with "unlimited" domains installed. I have a problem with this server which I didn't expect when I made the decision to purchase. ensim Basic with unlimited domains does not come with a DNS server. What I need to do is to have my hosting company to add my domains to their DNS servers which is very time consuming for me. I would like to set my own DNS server but I have difficulties in understanding the documents I've seen by now. Could anyone suggest me a solution or point to a document?
Hi,
Take a look at http://www.nettica.com/Articles.aspx?A=2 and see if that would work for you. Otherwise, having your hosting company do it for you would be faster than setting up your own DNS server from scratch.

Alan

If you've got a linux or unix server then BIND came with it. Might as well use it if you've got it. I have a full step by step tutorial on how to set it up:

Is the free credits you have permanent or do they expire? I used to have DNSPark on my comparison chart, but I removed them cause their free credits expire. I like to keep a comparison of the various free dns services:

Hi silentrage,
Our free DNS service (one hostname) technically expires after 2 months, although it can be renewed as often as necessary, and thus we do not enforce the expiration date unless abuse is found/reported. Bulk DNS service is not free, and thus, all credits expire if the service is not renewed. But our bulk service is quite different from others. You can freely add and remove zones and your credits will adjust accordingly. If you lose a client or something, you can delete the zone and recover your investment to re-use on a new customer. So it's not a "use it or lose it" proposition. As long as you renew you will always have the credits available, so the more domains you have the lower the cost per domain.

You say hostname? like blah.nettica.com for example?
To ask this simply. Is it possible for somebody to register a domain somewhere, and host it on your server for free indefinately? If so, I'll test your services and ask you some question in private so that I can place ya on my compare chart.

(sorry to get off the topic izmir)
No, it is in fact just a single hostname (blah.peerserver.com, actually). We do not offer free DNS service for a full domain for any length of time because we do not believe in the bait and switch like (apparently) DNSPark, or want to deal with the 5 domain freeloaders like ZoneEdit. With us you are not paying more to subsidize someone else's free service.
We do have a plan where DNS service never expires for $40/domain, but that probably does not qualify for your chart.

Alan
