New server

I just transferred servers from a shared server to a virtual private server. My site is still running on the shared until I get the other one up and running. I transferred my site using the transfer tool in CPanel and it looks like all my databases and everything transferred, but I cannot access my site.



I type in: http://ip_address and I would expect to be able to make it to my site, but I don't. I can't do: http://mydomain.com because my domain is still registered with my shared server until I know my new one is good.



I should be able to access my new server via the IP address right? Any thoughts why I wouldn't be able to do this? I've tried:



http://my_ip/~username and

http://my_ip



and neither work.

It won't necessarily work by IP directly and may work by domain once you change the IP. We can verify this by putting the domain in your hosts file pointing to the new IP.



Hosts file:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers\etc\hosts

Nevermind. I got it.



I was doing:



http://ipaddress/~username



and I needed to do:



http://ipaddress/~username/



I was just missing the final "/". Sorry for wasting
